Silent Auction & Supper

I believe that our Silent Auction and Baked Potato Supper was a big success due to everyone that took part... from the people that set up the clubhouse, the cooks, servers,  people that sold tickets, 50/50 also all those

people that purchased a ticket and came.  I do hope that  this fund raiser will help defray a part of the cost of the new bocce and pitonque courts.  The net proceeds from the evening that I turned over to the Treasurer were $1,124.42.  This amount is prior to taxes. However, we will still clear a bit over $1,000.00.

A Big Thank You to everyone!

Thank you to those who sent me cards and their prayers during my recent illness.

---Robert Scarsella

To our friends and neighbors: We want to thank you for your prayers, your help and get well wishes, during Bob’s recovery from surgery. I am on the road to recovery, but it will take some time and patience to get back to normal. Again, thank you for your kind thoughts. –Bob and Carol Musgnug

We would like to thank all of you who called, sent sympathy cards, gave special hugs and words of heartfelt sympathy for the passing of Phil’s brother Roger, who battled two kinds of cancer.  Last year Roger spent January with his son in California; February with his sisters in Ocala and the month of March with us here in Golden Ponds. He said he never laughed so much as when he was here. He joined in with the crowd and loved every minute of it. He even had a couple of dates (not mentioning any names.) Golden Ponds is filled with great spirit in good times and sad times. God is good and so is Golden Ponds! May it always be that way. –Fran & Phil Morneault

I would like to thank all who participated in the Golden Ponds elections and wish the best to our newly elected Board and Trustees. Again, I mention, for the good of our Golden Ponds community that they need our support. Some are snow birds and I am sure with our technologies of computers, video cams, cell phones and the use of faxes, that we will survive. We know there are folks that do not think this will work and are being very negative before they even give these people a chance. I hope everyone will help in what ever capacity that they may be able to, and remember, we are all Golden Ponders and we should be helping and supporting our Board and the Trustee’s. I understand that with all of our sports, and activities that people are involved in, they sometime need updating with equipment and other money items. The HOA works on a rather small budget and we really need to prioritize on where money is spent. I hope that the Board and the Trustees make responsible decisions that affect the majority of our residents.

-----Neal Plante

I want to congratulate the outgoing HOA Board Members for all the hard work and accomplishments during their tenure. I also want to thank those who voted for me to be a trustee for the next two years. I feel the new Board members will strive to keep Golden Ponds one of the best parks in the state.

Respectfully, Bob Barr

EDITOR/PUBLISHERS NOTE:

I endeavor to keep all the activities dates and times accurate on our monthly calendars. Due to the seasonal activities and other deletions and additions it is very difficult to stay accurate. It would be very helpful if "those in the know" would advise me when there are changes. Please note that I know there are some things shown on this calendar that will be dropped from the April calendar such as Darts.

I also need to know what card games are being played when. Such as Cribbage? Pokeno? Also are we still playing MahJongg and doing Crafts? And more.

Also: Those who send articles or other information to me via the computer … PLEASE don’t type in color and don’t use caps and underlining of whole paragraphs. I use 12 pt. Ariel font in the ATP, so if you send it that way it would be helpful, but not imperative, as I can change it.

If you include colored illustrations they will Xerox too dark. Either use line-drawing clip art or revert to black & white on your editing program, if you know how.

Again, I thank all of you who are so cooperative in getting material to me by the 20th.

--- "Sam" LeGree

COP-NHW

Most Golden Ponds residents remember the good old days when it was relaxing and a pleasure to load the family in the car and just drive to the beach, maybe to a picnic, shopping and enjoy the scenery. Today it's a whole new experience. As most of you who have driven on US 1 or I-95 or wherever in
St Lucie, Co. know, it's definitely changed. Now we have "Road Rage". Of course here at G.P. there is no Road Rage. If you drive around G.P. the residents wave to each other. Outside G.P. they wave with the middle finger extended. Maybe they are thanking us for obeying the rules of the road? Most of us that enter G.P. leave "road rage" at the entrance gate.

G.P. has two lane roads to get around; be it walking, Golf Carting, Vehicles, bicycles, or trucks which at times can be quite hairy. We do have stop signs and a speed limit of 15 mph. We also have garbage pickups, Recycling yard waste, UPS deliveries, outside contractors, etc. You are wondering what this is leading to?

We must become alert, careful, and yield when moving around the road in G.P. Heedless people have the most accidents. Bicycles should have flashlights of safety red lights, especially at night. Walkers should carry flash lights or safety lights that can be pinned on your clothing, when walking in the dark of night.

Residents should also inform their visitors (adult and children) of our safety concerns at Golden Ponds. Who has the "right of way"? Remember proceed with caution when walking,
driving or whatever in the park.

This article appeared in the ATP a number of years ago and the situation has not changed. We still have people riding, walking, and driving without using the aforementioned safety devices, or stopping at stop signs.

We sincerely hope it doesn't take a bad
accident before people realize these
precautions are for their benefit.

A WISH FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY

May there always be work for your hands to do;
May your purse always hold a coin or two;

May the sun always shine on your windowpane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Thanks to all the people that came to the NHW meeting last month. For those that missed it be informed that the presentation given by Deputy Leroy Davis was very informative and well received by those in attendance. We had a very informal discussion with many people in the audience contributing personal information. This is the type of meeting we hope to have in the future.

After six years of hauling the aluminum cans to be recycled Ken Cooper and Larry Durocher have decided it might be time to have some one else step forward and do this job. We truly thank them for their dedication to this task.

We would hope that some one will step forward and lend a hand. Bob Barr and Ralph Carabin will do this for the remainder of the season . May through October is the months we need some one with a pick-up or small trailer

If you can do this please contact B Barr, Ralph Carabin or Barbara McCallister, Thank you.

Unless some thing changes as of now we will NOT HAVE A NEIGHBORHOOD

WATCH MEETING IN THE MONTH OF MARCH

If some one has a suggestion for a speaker or whatever please let us know.

We will resume on Wednesday April 14 at 7:00 PM The speaker will cover the subjects on Federal Benefits for Veterans .As always these meeting are open to everyone in the Park.

--Bob Barr , Barbara McCallister ,Ralph Carabin NHW

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

In the current economic collapse, law enforcement officials are already seeing an increase in certain crimes, including identity theft. With rising unemployment rates and a depressed housing market, people are struggling to replace lost income and, unfortunately, some are choosing to do it at the cost of others.
Officials are also concerned that recession-induced law enforcement budget cuts will limit the resources available to deal with offenders, potentially contributing to rising crime rates. Additionally, when gas prices rise, police limit driving time, leading to a reduced presence in neighborhoods where patrol cars can serve as a deterrent. Fewer patrol cars on the streets also means an increased response time when crimes are committed. Some criminals are aware that during a recession these cuts are made in their local law enforcement and use that in their favor.

Home Security Measures
So, how do you protect yourself from things like white-collar crime, identity theft, and mortgage fraud? The good news is that the preventative steps for these crimes overlap. Here are some tips to get you started:
Regularly review your credit report for questionable activity.
Shred all documents containing personal and financial information.
Install anti-virus, anti-spyware, or firewall software on your computer and ensure that your Internet browser and/or mail client are up to date.
The elderly are particularly vulnerable to fraud, so keep in mind those friends or relatives who might be at risk and let them know what to watch out for: specifically, unsolicited offers or requests for information.

 TO OUR NEWEST RESIDENTS

Gary Loveys and Viann Whiteway, 1852 Bar Harbor Drive. They are from Kingston, Ont. and will be renting their home until it is time for them to winter in Florida. We are all betting it won’t be long!

You must remember to STOP at all STOP Signs. I have been told that many of the bicycles and golf carts are not stopping and you are an accident waiting to happen!

Remember to carry those lights before daylight and after dark!

I had a recent meeting with Waste Pro, our garbage carrier. There is a little difference in our bulk pick up. Like I have told you before, porcelain cannot be picked up with the garbage. Now, they have another category. It is called white goods. White Goods are washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, hot water heaters. You must call Waste Pro (595-9390) and they will pick the items up – at curb side within twenty four (24) hours. Furniture is still handled the same way – the garbage man should pick it up. Because they may not be able to come on Saturday morning to pick up, please do not put the items out until Monday – after the weekend – if your replacement is done on a Friday.

You must renew your CHANGE OF ADDRESS with the Post Office every six months!

Golf Cart Owners/Drivers – You still must be at least 16 years of age to drive a golf cart. Also, there are still a few that are driving your golf carts on the grass, leaving tracks. When you leave the clubhouse area and use the sidewalk by my mailbox, please stay on the sidewalk or road. You are driving over the bushes and sprinkler heads.

Please park in the proper place. Do not park where it says GOLDEN PONDS GOLF CART PARKING ONLY. That is for employee parking. Thanks

Dog Owners – Please do not tie up your dogs outside of your home. Also, there is a 6’ limit of leashes in the county.

PLEASE READ THE RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING PETS.

If you need a copy because you cannot find yours, please ask me.

ICE USERS are still leaving the scoop in the ice and not in the proper spot. If you do not understand this, please ask and I will be happy to instruct you – before the Health Department discovers this and closes the ice maker. Ice is for the residents to use and also for HOA functions but not to replace your refrigerator. Please be considerate. Do not leave the scoop in the ice!

Also, the ice maker is not a cooler for your wine or otherwise.

Do you have an S.O.S. sticker on your door? If so, you can remove it as that program is no longer in existence.

I have noticed a few cars in the clubhouse parking lot overnight. Each home has parking for two (2) vehicles. This means, you do not park your car or your company’s cars in the clubhouse parking lot. This only adds to confusion when there is an activity.

Please check your mailboxes and mailbox posts. There are some that need painting badly. Remember, we supply the paint – you supply the labor. Better yet –purchase a new mailbox from Golden Ponds. Unfortunately, with the new order came higher prices. Mailboxes are now $30.00 installed. Paint is available from the Maintenance Dept. Monday-Friday 7 – 12 a.m.

Also, walk all the way around your house. Some skirting is in need of power washing or painting. There are some driveways that are black from mildew. These must be kept clean.

There are more and more times that we need more golf cart parking. OVERFLOW GOLF CART PARKING is on the south side of the boccie courts. Pull straight in towards the boccie courts. Please do not park on the grass on the island, as you are hitting the sprinkler heads. When you are in the latest golf cart parking area, please do not exit by driving over the grass. You are leaving a tracking mess! Thanks for your understanding.

I want to congratulate the incoming HOA Board of Directors for winning the election and thank the past Board of Directors for their hard work. For those that were not elected, don’t give up the ship! Consider running again in the future. New people bring new interests. Everyone volunteering to run is appreciated by one and all.

All who are hosting activities in the south clubhouse – the fire marshal has visited us and advised us that nothing should be placed in front of the south EXIT door and the east doors. There are mats in front of the east doors indicating where nothing should be placed within that area. In front of the south door of the south clubhouse, nothing should be placed closer than 5’ or within that area of the mat in front of the door.

When you decide who is doing your weed whacking and trimming in your absence, be sure to tell them it will be a complete job – trimming of bushes, etc. Just because you cut the bushes way back, they still grow in your absence. Also, if there are any drain boxes on your leased land, be sure to tell them to keep them weed whacked around to keep the drainage working. I really don’t want to baby sit your yard in your absence. If you are leaving an item in the R.V. Storage area, be sure to make arrangements with the person doing your home to do that area also. I found I was constantly reminding someone about doing the R.V. section last year.

Unfortunately when we have had residents passing away, no one seems to know who is on the title, etc. If you would like me to make a copy of your title(s) for your file in my office, I would be happy to do it. Also, keep those Resident Information Sheets updated with emergency telephone numbers, who has your keys, etc.

Another reminder – if you have a contractor do work on your home that requires a permit, I need the following:

A copy of the Permit, A copy of the Contractor’s license with St. Lucie County, A copy of the Contactor’s insurance.

When the work is complete, I need to make a copy of the Finalized Permit. This is for everyone’s protection.

Thank you to the grandparents that come to the pool with your guests.

--- Helen Cope
